Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving brought the usual crowd of psyched boulderers to our little Bishop community. The weather was perfect, as usual, with the shade offering amazing sending temps for the ripped hard men and women that graced our boulder fields.

So where was I? Training on my campus board… of course!

After receiving photos from Sam who was documenting the Buttermilk scene, I had a tiny twinge of disappointment that I was not there to hang out with the visiting superstars.

The best part of Thanksgiving is the feast that takes place. As soon as the Turkeys arrive at the grocery store, I start dreaming about eating crunchy turkey skin and pie! Weeks before this year’s Thanksgiving feast, my friends and I were fortunate enough to host a vigilant stomach flu that kept host-jumping between my friends. The repercussions from the flu were apparent by how little damage we did to the Thanksgiving dinner that took place at my house. Fortunately, the following night brought more hungry climbers to our dining table, to help reduce the leftover pile!

With the Thanksgiving holiday behind us, Christmas cards have started arriving at my house which can only mean one thing… it’s time to start ordering my Christmas presents!

What Happened to My Summer?

This is the first blog post I have ever done and... I'm suddenly feeling a bit of stage fright! The worst part is that I do not have any exciting climbing news to report at the moment. I'm sitting in my office staring at two ginormous boxes of awesome Voodoo holds, but I have nowhere to put them! I was inches from having a training wall but alas... it looks like I'll be waiting a little longer to use those holds! Good thing we have an eight-feet high campus board on the back of our house and a MOON fingerboard in the kitchen (though I really wanted a green one...:)!

So the question on my mind is... 'What happened to my summer'? Two weeks ago it felt way too hot to climb. Then last week my fingers started going numb. Of course those who know me would not be surprised by my numb fingers since most of the year I live in my black North Face down jacket…while those around me are in T-shirts. But last week was a shock to the system…it suddenly was REALY cold. Wills and I woke up to a 40-degree house. Then we both remembered that the heater had stopped working last winter and we never bothered to repair it. And of course we had burned all of last year’s firewood cranking up the wood stove. You know the old saying that “they don’t make things like they use to”…? Well, that’s right… Today they put insulation in houses! My 1920 house has none! As a result, I rushed out to dedicate the whole of last week to wooding. Just another one of Life’s little monkey wrenches that get thrown at you to ruin two perfectly good climbing weeks. Yes, it can take a week for my back to recover after incorrectly lifting two cords of wood into the truck and out again.

On the first day, as we were driving out of town up Hwy 395 to the designated wood cutting areas, it felt wicked early… then I noticed that the two trucks on the opposite side of the highway arriving back into Bishop already had full beds AND trailer loads of wood. Perhaps I need to work on my morning starts. Unfortunately we had only enough time to cut and fill one full truck load each day. The irony of it all is that after ruining myself with four days of wooding, it’s warm again, so right now we don’t even need the wood burning stove!

Thinking back over last week I suddenly realize what happened to my summer… it disappeared without me getting to do much climbing because as usual, LIFE got in the way! Well, look out Life… I don’t intend to give up my fall and winter boulder season as well.

Next time around, I'll have some exciting climbing news to report...I hope!

Voodoo Climbing welcomes new partner Lisa Rands to their company. Rands grew up in Claremont, California, and, after graduating with an honors degree in geology from Cal Poly Pomona in 1999, worked for HP Geotech in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, before taking on a career as a professional athlete. Rands will be working with company founder Frank Cornelius and business partner Gina Richer. She will help design, develop and test products including Voodoo's huge climbing hold line, bouldering pads, and chalk bags. She will also be a spokesperson for the brand.

VooDoo has been super busy this holiday season! We sold out of crash pads this week and holds are still flying out the door. Our next run of pads will be ready to ship late January - depending on production of our new metal buckles. Yes, custom metal buckles... we're so excited! Drop us a line if you'd like to reserve a crash pad from the next run.

We're attending the Southwest Regional ABS Championships at Hangar 18 Riverside on January 10th. Our booth will be stocked with lots of chalk bags, haul bags, posters, and maybe a few crash pads - stop by for screaming deals on VooDoo gear!

Our hometown has been getting hammered with snow this week - we dug ourselves out a couple of times to bring packages to UPS and the Post Office - I think we need a snow plow & a mini truck ;-)

This year I spent Halloween with my good friends in San Diego. It was a last minute fun/work trip and a fantastic time. My flight was supposed to be uneventful - Flagstaff to Phoenix then on to San Diego - a total of 3 hours travel time. Sounded great to me - but I have this habit of chatting with people everywhere I go and I missed my connection in Phoenix! Totally embarrassed - I called my friends in San Diego to explain - they let me off easy and the airline booked me on the next flight to San Diego 3 hours later. So no big deal, I enjoyed dinner with my new airport friends. Boarded my next flight daydreaming about the Crow's Nest sunset cocktail hour in San Diego and waking up to a glorious view of the Pacific Ocean... unfortunately the fog came in - the pilots tried to land in San Diego.... twice.... no luck. My flight was sent back to Phoenix! Luckily, Lucy saved me from an overnight stay at the airport - she took great care of me and made sure I arrived at the airport on time the next day for my flight to Las Vegas then on to San Diego. Once I arrived at my final destination I was able to relax, soak up the fabulous scenery and the wonderful company. Thank you Stan, Margot, Mike, Cindy & of course my guardian angel - Lucy!

What a treat! Our old friends Cal & Marsha made an appearance in Flagstaff last week - they live in Bishop, CA - yeah, I know - why do you leave Bishop to vacation? Well, Flagstaff is pretty darn awesome & I think Marsha is falling in love with our little hometown.... or is she just in love with our dog Sue???? hmmmmm ;-)
I forgot the Camera when we headed out to the Priest Draw Monday but I can assure you - these two tore-it-up! What a fun day - I secretly reminisced about the days we used to spend bouldering at Black Mountain and various other So. Cal spots together - good times - I couldn't help but smile the entire day.
We went for a fun Mountain bike ride on Tuesday and when Marsha said she wanted to go bouldering afterward I thought she was kidding - I was WRONG! The whip cracked & we quickly headed out to Gloria's Boulders for an evening session.
The next day Cal & Marsha went for a ride on Mt. Elden and then spent another evening session at the Priest Draw with Frank as I boarded a plane for San Diego.
On Thursday they all headed to Sedona for some Mountain Biking and a mini Vortex tour - I hear it was a great time. Cal & Marsha headed to Moab that evening - rumor has it that they'll be heading back to Flagstaff this week - I won't forget my camera and I'll keep a close eye on Sue!

Got a ton of VooDoo work done this morning & figured out a new office configuration - I need more space for VooDoo work, school work & a marketing side project I'm doing for RockBiz Software. I think my new office is going to be a lot more efficient. After a nice lunch outdoors with Frank I took off to meet Susan at the climbing gym... it's fun to be climbing on plastic again - our gym has a ton of VooDoo Holds and it's like visiting family since I stopped making holds by hand two years ago (you know, if your family was made of plastic) so many cool old school shapes - what happened to that Giant Disc mold anyway!!!?? - it should be back in time for Christmas ;-) After getting back to work I checked out some final drafts of our new Lisa Rands climbing the Mandala poster and I'm very excited to see it go to print! To end hump day we met Stan & Margot at the Monte Vista to watch their friend's band play - lots of fun! So "le tired" & tomorrow is another party night - the Reel Rock Tour is in Flagstaff!!!!...WooHoo!

The Pine Mountain Pull Down was a ton of fun. This was the first year for the event so not a huge turnout (where were you???) - I can see this event getting bigger every year. We had a great time reminiscing about our days in So Cal, soaked up some great scenery, sold lots of gear, hung out at the beach, and best of all caught up with old friends and made a bunch of new ones - I love my job.

Is it August Already?

Earlier this month I went on a road bike tour of Idaho with Shelly, Ross & Ed – we rode over 400 miles in a week - took in some fabulous scenery, tackled plenty of rough hill climbs, relaxed in the lava hot springs, explored the local breweries, laughed so much that my face and abs were sore – basically had a blast every single day of the ride! Thanks Guys!

After miles of riding all summer my legs feel super strong but I’ve got the itch to climb again! Not just bouldering mind you, I’m dying to do some trad & sport climbing! Frank and I decided to start exploring more of our local areas. We’ve lived in Flagstaff for 8 years but we haven’t climbed at several of the areas Flagstaff has to offer - embarrassing. This past weekend we hit The West Elden boulders – well, we wanted to check out the trad climbing there but got sucked into the bouldering. We thought this might happen so luckily we brought a crash pad. We had so much fun! We’re definitely going back to boulder but a handful of routes were calling our names… I love Flagstaff.

Right now I’m trying to catch up with work since I’ve been on vacation. Ugh! Summer’s not over yet, My Dad & Marla are arriving tomorrow for their annual Flagstaff adventure. Lots of climbing, mountain biking & kayaking to be done and next weekend I’m dragging them to the Pine Mountain Pulldown for the ultimate climbing festival. My goal is to make sure they return home good & tired ;-)

I'm really behind on the blog posting lately! You know how Summer is... after months of cold winter weather it's tough to stay indoors and stare at a computer when you really don't have to. I've been riding my bike like crazy - putting in lots of miles in preparation for a week long cycling trip in August. I'd like to be out climbing - but my finger injury is back and it seems like a good idea to let it rest for a while. I figure all of this cycling will just make heel hooks and mantles feel sooooo easy when I do get back to bouldering & oh the endurance! If you've tried calling VooDoo this week you know we're closed - we took off for a week to Surprise Frank's Mom & Dad in Bend, Oregon. They're celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary tomorrow & boy were they surprised when we showed up at their front door! It was great! Just got back from Bend's famous pet parade downtown - so funny, I'll post photos as soon as I can find my usb cable.

Long time, no blog

Maybe it’s the weather but it seems like all of the blogs I check out on a daily basis are at a standstill – mine included ;-) I have a few good excuses… I started summer school classes and I plan on taking more classes this fall…why? Well, I’d like to learn some serious graphic and web design skills so I can contribute more than just the concepts and a bunch of pencil sketches to our ’09 VooDoo print catalog and our new website. I’m really psyched on this new challenge. Another reason I’ve been slacking on the blog is because we’ve been crazy busy here at VooDoo! It’s awesome! Typically in the summer things start to slow down a bit - as most people head outdoors to play (Frank & I included), but this year we’re “getting busy” in our so called off season. Crash Pads are rocking; holds are flying out the door. I’m still working on sorting through the 1000+ climbing hold molds heading to our manufacturer this summer to increase our line – it’s been tough finding time to fit it all in but I’m getting oh so close. Did I mention Frank finally agreed to make dog beds for me??? We’ve had a surprisingly great response to the beds – I’m so happy, I just got a new VooDoo Royale in Aqua Velvet and a Dog bed to match ;-)
So many new things going on at VooDoo and lots of new opportunities to explore with great people – the future looks bright…

Roxanna, Margot & I just got back from the Red Rock Rendezvous in Vegas. After the 4 hour drive we loaded up on food at Trader Joe's, stopped at the local climbing shop, and checked into the Bonnie Springs Motel. Rox had a route picked out for us (she did write one of the guide books to Red Rocks ;-) So we drove out to Calico Basin to climb Physical Graffiti (Margot's first multi pitch climb!) it was a blast - the perfect climb for Margot & she cruised it! We hiked out in the dark with huge smiles on our faces - we knew we were in for a fabulous couple of days playing in this Sandstone wonderland!

Margot had a bouldering clinic on Saturday so she stuck around and explored while Rox & I got a late start and headed out to Juniper Canyon to climb Ginger Cracks - the hike was long and warm but as we got closer we were amazed at how beautiful the route is! We ended up bailing after the first pitch because of our late start & very tired bodies...I completely forgot how much fun trad climbing is & how much I love Red Rocks! We vowed to go back and do the route together, next time feeling fresh and waking up when the alarm goes off ;-)... After a little rest, some food & beer we headed to the big RRR festival, caught up with old friends & checked out the new gear. I slept like a baby that night ;-) The next day the weather was a little cooler & breezy - too rainy for another day of long routes but perfect for bouldering! After a yummy breakfast and errands we headed out to the Kraft boulders for some bouldering action! It was a great trip, leaving me really psyched on trad climbing! Feeling tired today but loving every minute of it! Thanks Ladies!

It was nice to get back to the Priest Draw today for an early morning bouldering session with Frank, Rich & Rox - Loads of fun! The spring sunshine sure felt good! how we all feel after a fun weekend of bouldering

Chad came out from Denver for some weekend bouldering. We headed to the Priest Draw on Saturday and found a couple of cars stuck in the snow which brought back memories of my little fiasco a couple of weeks ago - ugh. The snow is melting, water is flowing and icicles are forming. After playing on some of the area classics we decided to end the day just past the anorexic boulder and it started snowing.... it was a nice hike back in the snow. After a yummy dinner at Hiro's we headed back to the voodoo compound to chill, drink beer & yap about climbing. The next day we decided to head to Sedona for warmer bouldering temps. Frank warned that we might not be able to cross Oak Creek because it's flowing so hard. (Last weekend Frank & Jeff went on an epic bike ride in Sedona that was supposed to be a "3 hour tour"but turned into 8 hours.) He was right about the creek - so we decided on plan B - hike in from the Huckaby trail. Nice walk and we had the entire area to ourselves! The temps were perfect and the bouldering was fun!

What I love most about my VooDoo Pad(s): First, it's frickin purple. Second it's swirly. That said -- don't let the looks confuse you. While this pad may have sass, it's also been the most durable piece of climbing gear I own. I would probably be walking with a cane if it weren't for that pad.

What I love most about VooDoo chalk bags: They're making old school deep chalk bags for the tradsters out there who need to chalk to their elbows during offwidth survival/combat. Who else would do that? There is a huge untapped market out there of morons like me and who else but Frank and Gina have the guts to stand up and say, "Hey so what if the 10-inch deep chalk bag went out of fashion in the early 80's, it's still bad ass." Plus mine has skull and crossbones on it, which makes me feel tough even when I'm whimpering.

Okay, I'm a huge fan of the Big Lebowski - if you haven’t noticed our voodoo crown logo was inspired by the bowling alley scenes from the movie. Occasionally I’ll blurt out lines, or a funny scene pops into my head... it makes me laugh, other people laugh??? - not so much. Anyway, my plan to be super productive this past weekend was crushed. Not by a Big Lebowski movie marathon (though I did spend one evening watching Magnolia for the umpteenth time) - but I got sidetracked by the amazing temps in Flagstaff on Sunday. What's a girl to do? Well Rox & I had a great idea - let's rent snowshoes and hike out to the Priest Draw for some limestone bouldering! Heck, why not buy a sled and teach Rox’s dog Champ to pull my little dog Sue along (Sue has powerful little legs but tires easily on the long distance adventures, in the cycling world she‘s the green jersey). Cabin fever will force you into such plans - what a fun day. The gang at Peace Surplus hooked us up with snow shoes & a snow sled! This was my first attempt at snowshoeing & now I really want the Kahtoola flight deck - snowshoeing is soooooo muuuuuch fuuuuun! Before we were able to get our party started at the Draw we had to dig ourselves out of the snow. Yup we got stuck in the muck. While driving along and chatting, the first thought in my head as we hit the Priest Draw turnoff was - “Ryan drove his VW van out here last weekend, surely my 4wd jeep cherokee can make it“… then reality hit, …. it snowed yesterday…. aaaahhhh! Rox had similar thoughts and we both chimed at about the same time - “we should turn around… yes, turn around!” We couldn’t - we were stuck! Rox & I figured we could get out with some effort & luck - so we went to work. Rox was pulling out rocks, branches, car mats, you name it, it was under the wheels. Sometimes it looked like it was going to work then another wheel would spin - the wheels kept on spinning - we tried more rocks from the muddy puddles down the road - I thought we should call AAA but Rox was not ready to surrender - so I decided to go looking around the neighborhood for a shovel. A really nice guy (Michael) let me borrow his. He added I should come back if we couldn’t get the car out. We shoveled our little hearts out (ask Rox, I’m really good at shoveling - I don‘t know why, but I really like it) We finally got the Jeep to move… not very far - and just as we got the car moving Michael drives up - he was worried because it had been a while since I borrowed his shovel. He was great - he used his truck to pull us out the rest of the way - thank goodness we had an old climbing rope in the jeep! I promised Michael homemade chocolate chip cookies & beer ;-) After our mini epic we were soooooo tired, but decided we had to go out & play - after all that work you can‘t just go home. We tried to get the dogs to sled - but Rox & I ended up doing most of the sledding. Once we got to the triangle boulder we ditched our crash pads and decided we only had energy for snow shoeing & sledding… here are some pics from our Sunday adventure. Lots of laughs… No funny stuff…

It's snowing again here in Flagstaff - it's beautiful... but no outdoor climbing for me - looks like a plastic weekend & I don't mean playing with Barbies. Frank is in Tucson for the Old Pueblo 24 hour mountain bike ride, he entered the solo single speed category - his idea of fun. I bailed on being his support crew at the last minute & decided to stay home, print some tees, list some new chalk bags, chalk buckets, totes & shovel the driveway. I listed the new tees at $5 each - a screaming deal on really nice tee shirts! I’ve been asking around for feedback & photos of our crash pads in action for a new “voodoo user” page I’m working on. I was talking to Kevin Daniels of Fixe Hardware in Bishop CA & begged him to let me blog about him. He told me he used 6 pads for this ascent (three of them were voodoo highball 5000s) He got his own 5000 after he fell from 30 feet and walked away!

I went to my first Bikram Yoga Class with Rox on Friday. She's been loving the class & the awesome instructor - so I finally committed. I've been scared to try it because everyone calls it "hot yoga" & I don't do well in the heat (that's why I live at 7000ft) - but in between making faces at each other and giggling, I made it through the 90 minutes. I was sure this was my first and my last class. Then a miraculous thing happened: I was tired, relaxed, loose and at peace. Both my brain and my body were calm - Fabulous!... not crunchy!

I’m trying to get a bunch of our shapes back into production - I have well over 1000 molds just sitting on shelves collecting dust - not to mention an entire pallet rack of brand new foam shapes that have never been molded! It's just a matter of going through them, reorganizing sets & molding new holds. I swear I’m working on it - it’s just a little overwhelming at times. Every Tuesday & Thursday four friends meet Ryan for a scheduled suffer fest. We committed to at least 5 months of his training program. We were all a little scared, but we went for it anyway. Now we actually look forward to the "pain train" - tough exercises, jump rope?(really, again?- jump rope?) music, smiles, trash talking & encouragement. Who knew working out could be fun? None of this changes the fact that I have a hard time getting out of bed every-single-day!!!! I did manage to pull myself up on my climbing wall last night -

Planned on going to the climbing gym or yoga with my girlfriends tonight. It’s been difficult to squeeze in some “Gina Time“ now that the holiday busy season has kicked in at VooDoo. Frank kept busy sewing today. He roped me into selecting fabrics for the next run of everything - my favorite part of the job. In between his huge day of sewing & his tig welding class he managed to put up a couple more panels on our climbing wall… I love that man! My Birthday is just around the corner and he’s trying to finish the wall before then (this wall is supposed to be my gift)…. See why I love him???? So I bailed on the climbing gym & the yoga class. Instead - while Frank was learning more about welding titanium - I spent my evening digging out our long lost stash of climbing holds, wrenches & bolts. Blasting every Pixies album in our music library... I slapped loads of holds onto our climbing wall! Oh what FUN! Uncovered so many classic shapes that are missing in our current production line. Inspiring to say the least… I'm really motivated to get some of the classics back into production… and even more psyched to get our NEW stuff molded! I love my new wall - Yes, sooooo in love with VooDoo… after all these years ;-)

6 friends, 3 days of riding, 2 nights camping & 100 miles covered in one of the coolest places on earth! Such a fun trip - we're already planning a longer white rim adventure for the Spring or Fall of '08 - we're hoping to squeeze in at least one tower next time.

moab rides

I forgot to update the blog after the Moab road bike ride. We rode 70 miles in the cold with lots of rain along the river road past the big bend boulders, castleton tower, fisher towers - out to Dewey Bridge and back. It was a great way to soak up the scenery. The sun made an appearance in the last 20 miles but then the wind picked up! It was a fun weekend hanging with Marc & Suzanne - they are hilarious and my face was sore from laughing! The big bend boulders were perfect on Sunday.

This weekend we’re heading off to the Canyonlands National Park in Utah http://www.nps.gov/cany/ to ride the white rim trail. 3 days of mountain biking and 2 nights of camping with a great group of friends surrounded by amazing scenery! Happy Halloween!

I talked to a guy today about crash pads - he loves his voodoo pad but he's having trouble with his top piece of closed cell foam creasing. To avoid this problem you'll have to train your foam from the very beginning & store your pad open when not in use. Fall

Fall is my favorite season and there is no place I‘d rather be than right here in Flagstaff. We spent Saturday bouldering at the Priest Draw with Susan, Marguerite & Issac - perfect weather, fun problems and great company. On Sunday we went for a 20 mile mtn bike ride with Art & Mary to check out the Aspens changing color. The scenery was spectacular and we had a lot of fun riding with our friends. After the ride we headed home and I made a delicious potato leek soup and we sampled Frank’s latest IPA on tap- yuuuummm - really, his best IPA ever! Drove out east to cut a bunch of firewood yesterday - an all day affair but totally worth it now that the chilly nights are here. Off to Utah this weekend for the Moab Century Tour http://www.skinnytirefestival.com/ - I think it’s going to be another great weekend.

Lots of climbing , friends, good food and random adventures. Where to start???
Last night the Orpheum theatre was packed full of climbers gathered to see a screening of the new flick King Lines, starring Chris Sharma. It was great! Had fun hanging with Susan & Jason sampling really good Belgian beers after the show.

September started out with the most entertaining slide show I have ever seen - Thanks Chris & Clay! I’m dying to get my hands on a copy of their super funny big wall training dvd. We hosted another Northern Arizona Climbers Coalition raffle at the slide show and raised $218. We’re on our way to replacing bolts & anchors at the Pit in Flagstaff & at Jack’s Canyon in Winslow. Progress!

Getting lots of bouldering in at the priest draw, cherry canyon, & my personal favorite Kelly Canyon. We even squeezed in a weekend of sport climbing & camping at Jack’s canyon - although we did spend one of the afternoons in our little trailer eating too much birthday cake, drinking IPAS & a yummy Cabernet - what else do you do when it’s raining?

Went to a hilarious potluck at Brian & Blanche’s house this month - the theme was trailer trash potluck - we brought a lovely macaroni & cheese dish in a bundt cake mold topped with sausages. I have never seen so much shiny food in one place in my entire life!

I brewed my first batch of beer this week, an all grain batch of a Belgian Saison ale. It’s a pretty time consuming process and a little stressful because you just don’t know if the final result will be tasty. But then again I did have an in house brew master with over 15 years of beer making under his belt guiding me through the process - Thanks Frank!

Been doing lots of work on VooDoo stuff. We came up with a couple of new crash pad designs we plan on testing this weekend. I’m pretty sure one of the pads will be a keeper and the dimensions make it so much easier to ship. Still trying to think of a name - any ideas?

I took a road trip to the Outdoor retailer summer show. Saw lots of cool new stuff and had a wonderful time catching up with friends! My favorite shaper, Louie Anderson met me in SLC and we had a great time hanging out and watching the Bouldering Championships put on by http://www.boulderingcomps.com/ They did a great job with the comp and the guys at Revloution & Mammut sure know how to throw an after party! The best part of my trip had to be climbing at Maple Canyon.... Cobble Heaven! It was my first time there and I had the best tour guides - Marc & Suzanne -Thanks Guys!

Summer time

Summer has been busier than usual but we've managed to get out bouldering a bunch... well, when it's not raining. The last week or so we've had great monsoons - everthing is blooming and green. The sun is out and it's about 68 while I sip my late morning coffee - just perfect! I know, it's not what you think summer in Arizona might be, but we're at 7000ft. Getting ready to hit the road for the big Outdoor Retailer Trade Show in Salt Lake City. We're not manning a booth this year but I'm looking to expand our crash pad distribution and possibly carry some new gear on our new website. It's gonna be a great time - catching up with old friends, checking out new gear & watching mad plastic pulling at the Bouldering Championships.

Wilene (Frank's Mom) just made a small batch of these new VooDoo totes & I'm almost out of stock! I found some cool discontinued retro fabrics a couple of months ago & we thought they would be perfect for our new bags. They're lined with a tough golf bag lining material - If you're interested drop me a line gina@voodooholds.com
Once these fabrics are gone, that's it - they're gone. I'll have to keep shopping around for cool fabrics - it's a tough job, but someone has to do it!

Roxanna Brock Slide Show & Fundraiser

Roxanna & Rich did a cool slide show at our local climbing gym Vertical Relief on Saturday night. Lots of awesome photos from their recent Honeymoon trip to a cool limestone crag in Turkey! There was a big turnout and the show was amazing... I think everyone in the room that night wants to plan a trip to Turkey.

Roxanna had a great idea to host a fundraising raffle at her slide show for the Northern Arizona Climbers Coalition. The NACC has been MIA for a while but a bunch of motivated locals are trying to revitalize the NACC with hopes to bring our local climbing community together - the raffle raised $90.00 - pretty good for our first fundraiser! Thanks to everyone who participated in the slideshow & raffle, many thanks to Roxanna & Rich for the great idea & generous raffle prizes... a couple of Mad Rock Harnesses, Black Diamond Tees, Patagonia Capeline, Vegas Limestone Guidebooks, VooDoo Tees & Chalk Bags - to name a few. Thanks To everyone at Vertical Relief, you guys are the best! Vertical Relief will be hosting a Slide show or Climbing Movie the Saturday after every "Flagstaff First Friday Art Walk".

This past weekend I dusted off my mountain bike & rode some super fun local trails with Janice & Roxanna on Saturday and did a great trail with Gina N. from Tucson on Sunday. It was a fun weekend - as much as I'd like to be out bouldering - it was awesome riding with these gals! They're all climbers but they're also strong cyclists & it was fun hanging out in new surroundings getting to know them better - maybe I'll remember my camera next time.

As far as VooDoo goes, I asked Louie to shape some new jugs for our fall line & he delivered... as he ALWAYS does! Look out steep climbing, there are some new jugs coming to town! I'll post some photos soon.

Frank just finished customizing a Highball 4000 Velcro closure pad with the new "VooDoo Lounge" feature for Chucky at the Cliffs climbing gym in Valhalla NY. Here I am admiring Frank's workmanship. He bar tacked four D rings and created an adjustable webbing system to convert the crash pad into a couch... now you can lounge by the fire in style!
